What is the Lion’s Mane mushroom?

The Lion’s Mane Mushroom(Hericium erinaceus, Yamabushitake) has been part of Asian culture for thousands of years. In ancient China, the mushroom, which resembles a lion’s mane or icicle, was reserved for members of the royal family. It has also been prized by Buddhist monks for centuries.

Why should you choose the dietary supplement Olimp Lion’s Mane Mushroom?

The pharmaceutical company Olimp Laboratories uses an ingredient with a certain amount of active ingredient, i.e. a standardized extract, for a valuable product. The dietary supplement Lion’s Mane Mushroom from Olimp Sport Nutrition contains beta-glucans. These are structural components of the cell walls of plants (mainly cereals: oats and barley), yeast and adaptogenic fungi. Chemically speaking, they are long-chain glucose polymers in which the individual molecules are linked together in a linear or branched fashion by ß-glycosidic bonds. Beta-glucans contribute to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. Including beta-glucans from oats or barley as part of a meal helps to reduce the rise in blood glucose levels after a meal. The structural and physical properties of beta-glucans vary depending on the mushroom species, growth environment, drying conditions and beta-glucan isolation/extraction process, resulting in significant changes in the intensity and type of activity.

The standardization to at least 25% beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucans in the Olimp Lion’s Mane Mushroom food supplement guarantees a constant and reproducible content of the active ingredient in every production batch. This means that each capsule of the product contains at least 125 mg of beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucans!

Lion’s Mane has no psychoactive properties and does not affect perception in any way!

Why a fruiting body and not a mycelium?

The body of the fungus consists of the mycelium, which is normally hidden in the substrate. What we commonly refer to as a mushroom is only its compact part, the fruiting body.

During cultivation, the mycelium grows on a starchy substrate. The mycelium only develops in a long-term process once it has colonized the entire culture medium. The mycelium undeniably contains a number of active substances, but it is difficult to separate them from the culture medium on which they have grown. For this reason, a significant proportion of mycelium-based preparations may consist of worthless starch, which is a polysaccharide.

Polysaccharides or beta-glucans?

Like starch (α-glucan), the active beta-glucans derived from mushrooms belong to the polysaccharide group. However, standardization to polysaccharides is not an indicator of the quality of Lion’s Mane extract, as they can be obtained almost entirely from the above-mentioned worthless starch. It is therefore important to choose a product that contains an extract standardized to beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucans.

Olimp Lion’s Mane Mushroom -10:1 Ratio Extract

The ratio is the relationship between the amount of raw material extracted and the amount of extract obtained. It indicates how much raw material was used to produce one part of the extract. In the case of the dietary supplement Olimp Lion’s Mane Mushroom, the RATIO is 10:1, which means that 1 kg of extract is obtained from 10 kg of dried Lion’s Mane Mushroom! One capsule containing 500 mg of this extract therefore corresponds to 5 g of dried lion’s mane mushrooms.
